Expectations

Who Thrives Here

We're a small, distributed team working on hard problems. Here's what makes someone successful in this environment.

Good Fit If You...
Care about evidence over ideology

We oppose bad legislation because laws should be evidence-based, not because we've pre-decided what AI can experience.

Work independently

You'll have real ownership. We give direction, not micromanagement.

Communicate proactively

Remote work requires good async communication. Written updates matter.

Follow through

We're counting on each other. If you commit, we need to trust it'll get done.

FAQ

Common Questions

Most roles work well with just 1-3 hours per week, but we're very flexible. Some volunteers contribute more; others help occasionally when they have time. The key is consistency and communication. If you can only help a few hours per month, tell us upfront—we can find tasks that work for sporadic availability.

No specific experience required for most roles. We value critical thinking, clear communication, and reliability over credentials. Legal, policy, or tech backgrounds are helpful but not necessary. We'll get you up to speed.

After you apply, we'll schedule a brief intro call (15-20 minutes) to discuss your interests and availability. If it's a good fit, you'll get access to our communication channels and documentation. We'll pair you with a current team member for your first few tasks to help you get oriented.

Yes! While much of our work focuses on US legislation, we welcome international volunteers. You can help with research, content review, international policy monitoring, translation, and technical work regardless of location.
